EFT is based on the premise that energy flows round the body via a series of energy channels or meridians.
Negative emotions are caused by blockages in the flow of energy along these channels, creating an imbalance. By tapping specific points on these meridians, the blockages can be cleared, re-establishing the flow of energy and restoring “balance” to the body.
Once re-balanced, the emotional difficulties usually become resolved - the memory remains, but the negative emotional charge is gone. Because the focus of the session is re-balancing the body’s energy flow, the experience is usually not too emotionally painful as there is no need for the practitioner to know in great detail about the root cause of the client’s problem.
Peter Scott studied Emotional Freedom Techniques with Judy Byrne, EFT Master and one of the original therapists who trained with Gary Craig, the developer of EFT, and with Alison Munro an EFT trainer and tutor at the London College of Clinical Hypnosis.

Emotional Freedom Techniques is about restoring the body both physically and emotionally to a state of balance and harmony.
Every person can be affected by negative emotions from past events that can come about through past relationships, trauma or loss. These negative emotions can be stirred up again in our day to day lives. This can limit our functioning and prevent us from being the person we were meant to be or having the health we ought to have. Often people will seek out counselling or psychotherapy to resolve the problem. But EFT offers a novel and gentle approach as it balances the energy system of the body.
What Happens in a Consultation?
You will be asked to think about the person or situation and the emotional issue linked with it. But you do not have to relive the experience. While you have this awareness of a negative emotion and so are 'tuned in' to it, you will asked to tap with your fingers on certain points on the body and have to speak a short phrase. The idea is to take the stuck emotion and disperse it.
Once completed you will be asked to think about the emotional issue again. Usually the intensity of feeling has been substantially reduced.
The EFT practitioner may ask you to repeat the process to bring the intensity of emotion down further until the body is balanced. It is unusual for these negative emotions concerning the particular issue being worked on to return.
There may be other events in your life that have stuck emotions tied to them and these may also need to be addressed.
EFT can also be used to deal with physical health issues.

What is Emotional Freedom Technique?
EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is an emotional healing technique which is based on a revolutionary discovery that violates most of the beliefs of conventional psychology. It states that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system.
Essentially, emotional freedom technique (EFT) is a form of ‘psychological acupuncture’ - except that we don't use needles. The approach relieves symptoms by tapping on various body locations. This tapping balances energy meridians that become disrupted when we think about or experience an emotionally disturbing circumstance.
Once balanced, the upset is usually resolved - the memory stays but the emotional charge is gone. Typically the result is lasting and is also accompanied by positive changes in thinking. The technique is easy to learn and ideal for self-help and excellent for treating children.
What is Emotional Freedom Technique used for?
EFT has been successfully applied to treat a wide range of emotional problems and issues.
It has also been applied to enhance performance and improve relationships. In relationships, Emotional Freedom Technique can help us by reducing emotional upsets towards our partner, many of which have their origins in our past. Using EFT, couples can overcome many of the barriers to friendship and closeness.
These are techniques for true healing and change. As we become free of our limiting emotions and beliefs we become closer to who we truly are and to expressing ourselves more fully in life. In whatever way that is supposed to be.
