Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through deep finger pressure and slow strokes on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fibres of the fascia, tendons and muscles. A deep-tissue massage helps loosen muscle tissues, release toxins from muscles and improve the circulation of blood.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is an effective way of treating your muscular aches, pains and stiffness. It focuses on the areas where you need it most. By listening to your needs I can tailor a treatment to suit you.

A treatment can involve techniques that may be quite uncomfortable in the short term but they work alongside your body to improve mobilty and muscular function.

Deep Tissue Massage

My massage is never the same. I cannot do massage by numbers. It would bore me. As a therapist, I am interested in you, in what has brought you to me, in what has happened to bring about pain or tension in your body, in how it manifests itself in you. And in how I can make you feel better.

I work normally quite deeply – soft massage is, in my opinion, utterly ineffective. If you like gentle massage such as given out in a thousand spas up and down the country each day, do not come to me.

Come to me if you want me to break down held tensions, finding areas of the body that are not functioning as they should be, or with the freedom that they need. This deep work brings a much deeper sense of relaxation to the body. Some of it can be painful but it is a ‘good pain’ and I always respect your tolerance for this kind of work. I promise you, you will leave feeling 10 times better than when you arrive.

I work a lot with people who do sport – swimmers, runners, kick boxers, tennis players. I try to heal their injuries or help to prevent injury. I love stretching them in ways they cannot stretch themselves (and they love it too).

Most often, though, I treat those whose lives are largely sedentary, office workers who get RSI or tensions in the back, shoulders, neck and arms – or in the glutes and back leg muscles from sitting too long. We were not meant to live like this but most of us do now and the body suffers. Having a massage is a remarkably effective and pleasurable way of taking that pain away. Try it some time.

£45 per hour. Discounts for students

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage concentrates on areas of tension using deep kneading and stoking techniques, manipulation and stretching of the muscles and surrounding soft tissue. This massage helps to free trapped nerves, oxygenate poorly circulated areas and allows the spine and joints to relax into alignment.

With the release of muscular tension there is a calming of the mind, which can lead to a deep state of relaxation.

Most adults have developed some negative postural habits either due to repetitive activities or mental and emotional influences on the body.

Those people whose jobs lead to repetitive postures such as drivers, desk workers, and computer operators, often find that gradual development of muscular imbalance leads to pain and tension.

Also people whose work or leisure activities involve a high level of muscular output often accumulate residues of lactic acid in their muscles which leads to stiffness and pain. All of these people would benefit from deep tissue massage treatments.

Full body treatments are for an hour. 30 minute treatments are also given.

Deep Tissue/Sports Massage

This therapy is designed to reach and realign the deeper layers of muscle tissue and connective fascia, aiming to relieve and release severe tension held on your body. In particular, this massage is used on areas of discomfort and limited mobility, postural problems and chronic tensions such as stiff necks, low back tightness or sore shoulders.

Deep tissue therapy works by physically breaking down the adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) with direct, slow pressure and different techniques, stimulating blood circulation, nourishing the tissue with nutrients and oxygen, and helping toxin and waste products removal from the cells. Benefits include improved range of motion and posture, and stress and pain relief. To achieve the best results, the treatment should concentrate on a single body part, for instance back or legs.

I have been a full-time complementary therapist since 2007; prior to that, I used to be an actress and a trapeze artist in Spain. Due to the physicality of my career, I was soon introduced to the world of the therapies and massages, where I quickly discovered my professional calling. Since then, I have been enriching and improving my work with the purpose of providing an optimal and more tailor-made service to my clients.

In order to provide a personalized treatment, I always like to combine all my skills from different  therapies such as Sports, Deep tissue and Pregnancy/Baby massage, Aromatherapy and Holistic massage, On-site and Indian head massage, Reflexology and Lymphatic Drainage, and Reiki and Reconnective healing,  all of which I am fully qualified.

I enjoy working with different people, both in my private practice and in businesses, addressing from common conditions caused by different lifestyles, stress and poor work postures to more specific circumstances, such as sports injuries, physical disabilities, pregnancy or fertility issues, for instance.

Anna is fully qualified with an ITEC Diploma in Sports massage since 2008 from the City and Islington College. She also holds different certificates for assisting Deep Tissue advanced courses and volunteering as a therapist in several marathons.

The cost of the treatment is £45 per hour (£25 per a 30 minute session).

I've found the deep tissue massage to be very effective at loosening up my back and neck. With sitting at a desk during the week, and doing heavy exercise when I'm out of the office, it's great to be able to feel like I can get some balance and give my muscles something back. The day after a massage my back is noticeably looser, and there's the added bonus that I'm generally a lot more relaxed immediately afterward and for the next few days. During the treatment, I feel that Anna put a lot of effort and care into getting it right, checking that I'm comfortable and that the pressure is not too great.”
Jamie Hodkinson , Equity analyst

I have been seeing Anna Josa for nearly 4 years as a massage therapist and find her the ultimate professional. She works with me to combat the repetitive strain injury I have from hours of violin playing. Treatments are not just soothing massages, Anna works hard to delve into why the body is in pain and, working with me, we find the best way to ease the pain, not only during the session but also in my day to day life. I certainly cannot stop playing the violin but coming for a treatment on a weekly basis has kept the pain in check and is a very enjoyable and relaxing experience.”
Maxine Kwok, LSO violinist
