BIODYNAMIC CRANIO SACRAL THERAPY is a subtle yet powerful therapy that helps orient the body back to it's inherent health.

In response to a physical injury, emotional stress or simply over doing it, the body’s tissues contract. If these tensions are not resolved, the tissues will stay contracted. Any tension that we “store” in our body restricts its proper functioning.

The cranial bones, membranes & cerebrospinal fluid that surround & protect the brain and spinal cord are fundamental to the craniosacral approach.

Through gently placing the hands at mainly the head (cranium), sacrum (base of the spine) or feet, the practitioner can palpate these restrictions enabling him/her to make a therapeutic relationship with the body through their hands. Through this interface the practitioner can gently release tensions and restrictions from past or current illnesses, accidents, emotional trauma etc reducing pain and increasing well-being.

The practitioner listens to the story your body has to tell, and rather than treating the symptoms, the emphasis in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is to orient the body back to its inherent health, which is often obscured, but always present.

Nicola-Fee Bahl is a registered Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist and is a member of the Craniosacral Therapy association. She can be seen by appointment.

Craniosacral therapy brings your body into closer touch with its own healing resources. All kinds of illness or injury - major, minor and emotional - have disturbing effects on the body's detailed structure and function, many of which persist even when the original trouble has apparently eased. These injuries include the effects of birth itself (often the first significant trauma you experienced), as well as operations or dental treatment.

Reactions to recent injury can be effectively treated, but Craniosacral therapy can also uncover and unwind old patterns of tissue resistance and congestion which have a chronic effect on both physical and emotional health. The treatment is extremely gentle and works on a subtle but profound level: the experience is often like being tuned. Treatment can help strengthen the immune system and provide support in chronic illness. It is a powerful approach where the body is disempowered through emotional stress or over-use (such as RSI, vocal strain, etc).

Craniosacral therapy is a very productive approach with children, and can help many with developmental and behavioural issues. All young babies can readily benefit, and a little early treatment may help prevent long-term problems which may arise from any degree of birth trauma. Treatment can also help you to cope better with pregnancy and childbirth, and postnatally

Further Information About Cranio-Sacral Therapy/Cranial Osteopathy

Developed by osteopath William Sutherland at the end of the 19th century, he discovered that intrinsic movements of the bones in the skull are inextricably linked with physical, mental and emotional health. These movements are rhythmic tidal motions which can be felt as palpitations in the cerebro-spinal fluid of the skull and pelvic areas. The cranial osteopath or cranio-sacral therapist feels for these slight expansions and contractions which gives information on the patient’s health. Following manipulation by the therapist, changes in pressure lead to beneficial changes in the body.

It is an exceptionally gentle form of therapy using light touch. This influences deeply held patterns of disease which accumulate throughout life as a result of injury and illness, and become held into the body tissues. It has the potential to transform patterns of restriction and resistance at a very fundamental level, thereby eliminating disease and restoring health.

It is so gentle it can be used for babies and young children as well as the elderly.
